Some of our historical buildings are not navigable by wheelchair, give us a call if you would like particulars prior to arrival.

Museum Background:

The Iron County Historical Museum opened in 1968 on the grounds of the former Caspian Mine that closed in 1937. The tall headframe that can be seen from anywhere on the grounds stands over a flooded mine shaft that is 539 feet deep! The Museum staff and volunteers maintain 25 buildings with more than 100 exhibits, an extensive research center & archives, and two art galleries. Our mission is “to preserve the past, inspire lifelong learning, and encourage cultural engagement.” Exhibits are open May-October annually as only the main building is accessible in the winter months.

Volunteering & Donations:

There are great opportunities for volunteers to help with the various projects or museum events.

Or, if you would like to help us out with a specific project, you can take a look at our wish list. You can learn more on the donations page.
